Do you ever ask yourself, what will it be like if and when we start winning trophies? An entire generation of City fans look forward to the moment when City lift their next trophy. The Carling Cup is a mere three games away. But do you think that younger City fans are ready to experience winning?!
This is another video that caught our eye for a low amount of views even though it's an interesting video. Professor Cary Cooper talks about the psychology of City fans with a video that contains some great footage of the stands at Maine Road. This one deserves more than the 2,954 views it has had so far so we've put it in at No.4 in the MCFCfans video chart.

It's Grim Oop North says:
I am a City fan of 43 years of age.
I remember us winning the league Cup against Newcastle, and I also know my Uncles and mates' Dads who were perfectly used to winning trophies in the Mercer/Allison years, just a little before I was old enough to appreciate what was going on in the football world, had no problem with us lifting silverware.
I am still a City fan because all proper football fans choose a team, then stick to them, through thick and thin, usually through family influence, or geographical influence - I don't need to elaborate on this as I think we all know this to be true. Certainly when I chose sides at infant school, City were not the underdog team at all, we were more or less level pegging with Utd.
If City had carried on winning trophies like Utd have, I would still support City, I wouldn't try to sabotage anything about my club, just because I was of a certain psychological type, as the learned bloke suggests. It is also ridiculous to suggest all these successful business men who have been on City boards over the last 30 odd years have subconsciously sabotaged the club too, in complete contrast to their lives outside of City.
The example of sacking Peter Reid after two quite high finishes in the top flight masks the fact that his brand of football sucks, and we have always been a club who appreciate good football, like Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham have the reputation. Reidy went because the board thought we could do better, not worse.
I have a degree in Psychology from a proper university, unlike Lancaster, and I can tell you City fans, that we are not a weirdo bunch of self destructive losers, we are in fact representative of most loyal football fans, perfectly capable of going to Wembley and having an enjoyable day out if we win, and an experience not to forget if we lose.
I hope the learned Yank has some decent science with which to base his ramblings upon, I for one doubt it, and look forward to throwing our success back in his misguided face.

You crack me up, Grimupnorth - proper university - learned yank - very good, if a little aggressive. He does have it wrong though, I started when we were winning things and I miss that like the devil but would still support City if we were in the conference. I have stood next to a few self-destructive, loser weirdos at Maine rd., but they were OUR self-destructive, loser weirdos.

It's Grim Oop North says:
I've tried to post an apology about an hour ago, and it hasn't shown up yet, so apologies if this comes out twice.
I got a bit carried away with the implied notion from the Professor that we City fans are self - destructive losers, and made some rather high - handed comments which, on reflection, I rather regret.
Sorry Professor Cooper, sorry all of Lancaster and the University in particular. Oh and sorry all Americans too.

isn't Lancaster not actually a proper university? it's above manchester for instance in rankings!
it's irrelevant any way, i tend to agree with you!

It's Grim Oop North says:
Hey Tom,
I didn't know Lancaster was above Manchester in the rankings, you live and learn eh?
It's ironic I was objecting to sweeping generalisations about City fans, and threw a couple back myself in defence - guess it's a sore point with me! Hopefully I'll feel a lot less sensitive when we finally bag some cups soon, it's long overdue.
